Golden Ball
FIFA World Cup 1962
Brazil
From 30 May to 17 June, 1962, Chile was the staging country for the seventh FIFA World cup. Chile was chosen as host by FIFA in June 1956, as the World Cup returned to the continent of South America after 12 years and Brazil team would claim they second consecutive title.
In this World Cup, Brazil would feature its undisputed star: Pelé. Sadly, he was injured after the first match against Mexico, so he couldn’t play for the rest of the tournament.
Brazil reached the final match without too much trouble beating England on the quarter final and the host, Chile, on the semifinals at the Santiago´s Estadio Nacional.
Brazil national team had a legendary line-up. With players like Garrincha, Vavá, Amarildo, Zito and DidÃ, among others, every team feared for their defense line. The final match against Czechoslovakia ended 3-1 to Brazil, a successful defense of the title for only the second time in the history of the competition in spite of the absence of their star player of 1958, Pelé.
