Former football player Zinedine Zidane was born 23 June 1972 in Marseille. He is considered one of the best European football players in the last 50 years according to surveys made throughout UEFA´s website back in 2004. Zidane´s professional career started with his debut in the AS Cannes back in 1998. Four years later he joined FC Bordeaux and in 1996 he was acquired by Juventus F.C. In 2001, Zidane joined Real Madrid for €78 million, the most expensive transfer fee in football history at the time, and signed a four-year contract. He played for Real Madrid until 2006 when he finally retired from football. In 2006 World Cup the “Zizou” -as some call him- stood out in the midfield thus making his team reach the final match against Italy which they lost in the penalty shootout. Still, thanks to his performance throughout the tournament, he was awarded with the Golden Ball and said goodbye to football as a true football legend.
